Research in the Arts
Research and development in the arts at institutions of higher education is equivalent to academic research at the universities.
Research and development (R and D) work has two functions:
- to widen our understanding of reality, and the significance of our lives by consciously using artistic processes as tools in our search for knowledge.
- to ensure the presence of a critical and reflective attitude across the entire range of activities at Stockholm Academy of Dramatic Arts.
R and D work is now in a period of intensive discussion and rewarding dialogue. Throughout society the boundary between science and the arts is seen as an interesting and fruitful area for further study. Stockholm Academy of Dramatic Arts is an active participant in the exploration of this uncharted territory.
We have started a wider exchange of experience with scientific and humanist research bodies, and other institutions in the arts and information technology. The projects are run by the professors and lecturers of the university or by artists with a close involvement in the subject of research. Government research grants cover research activities. Larger projects have to be funded from research councils or foundations.
